Using TinrecRecord & transcribe

Record and transcribe a phone call

Use system call recording, then import the audio into Tinrec to generate a transcript

Overview

Tinrec does not currently support recording phone calls directly in the App. Apple and Google currently restrict third-party apps from recording phone calls directly, so call content must first be recorded with built-in system call recording, then imported into Tinrec for transcription.

After import, Tinrec automatically generates a transcript, AI summary, and to-dos—handy for phone interviews, customer calls, and more.

Legal note: Before recording, confirm you comply with local laws and have the other party’s consent.

Record a call on iOS

Apple provides built-in call recording on supported iPhone models. After recording, you can share the audio file into Tinrec.

  1. During a call, use iPhone’s built-in call recording to start recording (steps vary by iOS version; see Apple’s official guide).
  2. After the call ends, find the call recording in the Notes app.
  3. Open the recording, tap the ⋯ menu in the upper left → Share Audio.
4. In the share sheet, choose Tinrec; if it doesn’t appear, tap More and add Tinrec to the share list (see Apple’s guide to customizing sharing options).
  5. Rename the file if needed, then confirm to finish importing.
  6. Tinrec starts transcription automatically; when done, you can view the transcript, summary, and to-dos.

Record a call on Android

Some Android devices (such as Google Pixel) support built-in call recording. After recording, you can share into Tinrec the same way.

  1. Follow your device’s instructions to use the Google Phone app or built-in call recording (steps vary by model; see Google’s official guide or your device manual).
  2. After the call ends, find the saved call recording file.
  3. Use the system Share feature and choose Tinrec.
  4. Rename the file if needed, then confirm to finish importing.
  5. Tinrec starts transcription automatically; when done, you can view the transcript, summary, and to-dos.

Import a call recording in Tinrec

If you already saved the call recording as a local file, you can import it in Tinrec:

  1. On the Tinrec home screen or Workspace, tap Import to open the Transcribe audio and video window.
  2. Drag and drop or select the call recording file (supports MP3, WAV, M4A, and more).
  3. Tap Start transcription and wait for upload and processing to finish.
  4. When done, a transcript, AI summary, and to-dos are generated automatically.

Tips / FAQ

  • Why can’t I record calls directly in Tinrec? Apple and Google restrict third-party apps from recording phone calls directly. If Tinrec keeps recording while a call is in progress, the system may also interrupt it. Use system call recording, then import into Tinrec for transcription.
  • Legal and privacy: Before recording, confirm you comply with local laws and have the other party’s consent.
  • Platform and model differences: Whether call recording is available and where files are stored depends on device model, OS version, and region—follow system documentation.
  • Import allowance: Free: 30 minutes of transcript per import, 5 imports per month. Pro: 5 hours per import and unlimited imports. Details as shown in the App.
