Record and transcribe a phone call
Use system call recording, then import the audio into Tinrec to generate a transcript
Overview
Tinrec does not currently support recording phone calls directly in the App. Apple and Google currently restrict third-party apps from recording phone calls directly, so call content must first be recorded with built-in system call recording, then imported into Tinrec for transcription.
After import, Tinrec automatically generates a transcript, AI summary, and to-dos—handy for phone interviews, customer calls, and more.
Legal note: Before recording, confirm you comply with local laws and have the other party’s consent.
Record a call on iOS
Apple provides built-in call recording on supported iPhone models. After recording, you can share the audio file into Tinrec.
- During a call, use iPhone’s built-in call recording to start recording (steps vary by iOS version; see Apple’s official guide).
- After the call ends, find the call recording in the Notes app.
- Open the recording, tap the ⋯ menu in the upper left → Share Audio.
- In the share sheet, choose Tinrec; if it doesn’t appear, tap More and add Tinrec to the share list (see Apple’s guide to customizing sharing options).
- Rename the file if needed, then confirm to finish importing.
- Tinrec starts transcription automatically; when done, you can view the transcript, summary, and to-dos.
Record a call on Android
Some Android devices (such as Google Pixel) support built-in call recording. After recording, you can share into Tinrec the same way.
- Follow your device’s instructions to use the Google Phone app or built-in call recording (steps vary by model; see Google’s official guide or your device manual).
- After the call ends, find the saved call recording file.
- Use the system Share feature and choose Tinrec.
- Rename the file if needed, then confirm to finish importing.
- Tinrec starts transcription automatically; when done, you can view the transcript, summary, and to-dos.
