Fix problems importing files to Tinrec

Common causes and fixes when importing audio or video files fails.

Overview

Uploading audio or video to Tinrec for transcription is how many users organize existing recordings. If import fails, upload gets stuck, or a transcript is not generated, use the troubleshooting steps below.

Steps (checklist)

  1. Confirm file format: Tinrec supports common audio and video formats, including MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, and more (full supported formats as shown in the App’s Transcribe audio and video window).
  2. Confirm per-session length: Free plan: 30 minutes of transcript per import. If you exceed the limit, upgrade to Pro (5 hours per import) or split the file.
  3. Confirm monthly allowance: Free plan: 5 imports per month (30 minutes of transcript each). After the allowance is used up, wait for reset or upgrade.
  4. Check network and file: Keep a stable network during upload; if upload is interrupted, drag and drop the file again.
  5. Try again: On the home screen / Workspace, tap Import → drag and drop or choose a file → tap Start transcription, and watch progress (Uploading → Creating task → Done).

Tips / FAQ

  • File too large or unsupported format: Convert to a supported format such as MP3 / WAV / M4A first, or shorten the session length before importing.
  • Third-party video parsing fails: For web videos, download the video and upload it via Import instead.
  • Exact supported format list: Supported formats may differ slightly by platform; follow what the App actually shows.
  • Import an audio or video file
  • Web video to text
  • Export conversations
